Bush enjoyed a stellar playing career at
Tampa and has had tremendous success coaching at nearly every amateur
level in the sport. As a player Bush earned National Player of the Year
honors in 1994 when he captained the Spartans to a national
championship. A four-time all-region and all-Sunshine State Conference
performer, Bush was inducted into the SSC Hall of Fame in 2002 and was
named to the SSC Silver Anniversary Team one year later. He was also
recognized as an All-American in 1991 and 1994 and played on the 1992 US
National B Team and the 1993 US Olympic Festival Team (South) that won
the gold medal. He went on to play professionally for the Tampa Bay
Cyclones, the Tampa Bay Terror, the New Orleans Gamblers, and the
Orlando Sundogs.
Bush returned to
UT in 2004 for his second stint as an assistant at his alma mater. He
also coached at Tampa under Keith Fulk from 1996-98 when the Spartans
won two SSC Championships. Bush's coaching prowess extends well beyond
his time spent on the UT campus. In 2002, he earned his USSF National
"A" Coaching License and was a staff coach for the FYSA Olympic
Development Program (ODP).
Prior to being the head coach at his
alma mater, Bush held the position of executive director/director of
coaching with HC United Soccer Club from 2001-05, working with over
2,200 youth players in the Tampa area. Bush had a total of four players
who were named to the final roster for the men’s 2005 U-17 US National
Team His experience includes working as head coach and head trainer for
the Tampa Bay Kickers soccer club (1997-2000), head coach of the Tampa
Bay Heather U-19 Girls Club Team (1999-2000), and the Tampa Arsenal U-19
Boys Club Team (1991-92). During his career coaching boys and girls
clubs from the U-13 to U-19, Bush has compiled 11 state championships.
As the head boy’s soccer coach at
Gaither High School, Bush amassed a 121-25-9 record from 1995-2001,
winning the state 4A championship during the 1999-2000 season and
finishing as runner-up the following year. In the championship season,
Gaither was ranked fifth in the country in the final NSCAA/Adidas
National Poll. He has also assisted the Jesuit High School junior
varsity team for two seasons helping guide the team to a record of
39-0-2.
His most recent accomplishment is an
induction to the University of Tampa Athletic Hall of Fame as the fifth
men’s soccer player to be chosen to the elite group. Bush will be
inducted in the Fall of 2006.
